Self defense and the funny
Tonight was some goooood practice. We got a lot of learning, hitting and falling done, and a good time was had by all. In addition, tonight was the first time I've seen one of the ranking instructors (Betty) in some time and I had something to tell her. A few weeks ago I'd found a website designed to calculate the likelihood a particular individual has of being raped, robbed, assaulted or whatnot. Here's the URL: http://www.rateyourrisk.org.

The questions and selection process is pretty good, I think. I showed both Betty and Sensei Tommy the site and told them it would be ideal for some of the women's self defense course classes, and we got to talking about that.

After a while, Sensei asked me what I got on the test. I told them that I came in at a -12. That means that it's more likely that I'll assault, rape, stab, beat or rob a criminal than the other way around. Both of my instructors promptly died laughing.

Anyway, take the test, tell me what you get. I'd like to see just how safe my friends and family are.

23.

(0 to 50) This score shows a low risk of assault. You are either highly cautious or a poor target. You should not be foolishly overconfident however. Keep up the precautions and take the test again next month and don't fudge on your points. It has simply gotten too dangerous to use an ATM (automatic teller machine) after dark. Recommend ATM machines to be placed in police substations.

Ir really doesn't have much to do with how well I can defend myself, I'm just a poor target in the respects it was considering. I know that my age and hair length increase my likelihood of being attacked and I didn't notice those on the quiz. I also noticed things like car type and condition were not there.

Your total is 46.

I'll have to remember to ask who's at the door more often. *wry smile*

How in the name of all that is sharp and pointy did you get an 18? You're one of the few people that I can think of that's more agile, mobile and hostile than I am. For God's sake, you SLEEP with guns! WTF?

i usually carry a small amount of cash on me. (rarely more than 30 bucks)

i have a credit card and a check card.

i do a fair amount of traveling outside of the city where i live. (family or friends in savannah, atl, athens, tennessee, etc.)

i use atm's at night. (not often, but occasionally i do. however, i always look for people hanging out nearby. normally, if i want cash, i'll buy a pack of gum at a grocery store and get cash there.)

i guess those didn't help my score.
